Federal Way Link Extension
Sound Transit
SeaTac to Federal Way, Washington
Exeltech served as primary reviewer of maintenance-of-traffic design submittals for this $1.4B mega project that affects I-5, state routes, county roads, and city streets. This project extends light rail from Angle Lake Station in the city of SeaTac to the Federal Way Transit Center and includes three stations in Kent/Des Moines, South 272nd Street, and the Federal Way Transit Center. All three stations add parking for a total of 3,200 spaces along the route. Exeltech staff participated in task force meetings, reviewed design submittals for compliance to standards, and helped to identify potential project risks. Structural engineering services included review of structural plans and calculations prepared by the design-build contractor for all stations, parking garages, and ancillary buildings for Star Lake, Kent Des Moines, and Federal Way light rail stations. Review included compliance with applicable IBC, ASCE, ANSI/AISC ACI, TMS, AASTHO, and AREMA codes and guidelines. In addition to code review, Exeltech provided review of constructability, serviceability, forward compatibility, and compliance with Sound Transit Design Construction Manual. Reviews are conducted at 30%, 60%, 90%, and Issued for Construction (IFC) milestones.
