Exeltech Welcomes Ian Cannon, Deputy Director of Engineering

Ian Cannon has joined Exeltech Consulting as Deputy Director of Engineering. The former Multnomah County, Oregon Transportation Division Director/County Engineer brings 30 years of experience navigating high profile public works projects from an owner perspective. Ian will manage Exeltech’s Portland office and provide owner’s representative, asset management, and engineering services to Exeltech’s public infrastructure project clients.

As program manager of the $330 million replacement of the Sellwood Bridge over the Willamette River in downtown Portland, Ian led the planning and design of the new 2,000-ft steel deck arch bridge. Built in 1925, the original Sellwood Bridge had a federal bridge sufficiency rating of 2 out of 100 and was the busiest two-lane span in the state. Ian also served on the Earthquake Ready Burnside Bridge Community Taskforce during the project’s environmental study phase. The Taskforce considered design criteria, social equity, and sustainability in its evaluation of more than 100 options to ensure that the Burnside Bridge, a regional lifeline route over the Willamette River, can be fully operational after a major earthquake. As a longtime member of the Oregon Association of County Engineers and Surveyors, Ian was involved with evaluating and recommending local agency bridge projects for state funding.

Ian grew up in Gig Harbor, Washington, and first met Exeltech President Santosh Kuruvilla while both were attending graduate school at Washington State University in Pullman. In his off hours, Ian is an avid hiker and cyclist. He also enjoys spending time on the water and with his golden retrievers, Liam and Winston. Ian looks forward to catching a few football games at WSU in Pullman this season, where his son and daughter also attended college.

Headquartered in Lacey, Washington, Exeltech provides civil and structural engineering, environmental documentation and permitting, landscape architecture, and construction management and inspection services throughout the western United States.
