Russell Road/Mill Creek Culvert Replacement

City of Forks
Forks, Washington

Exeltech assisted the City of Forks with design, permitting, and construction management services for a new 35-foot three-sided precast bridge to replace two failed culverts. Services included hydrology and hydraulic analysis of the stream system; development of design alternatives; plans, specifications, and cost estimates; fish passage improvements; and riparian grading and planting. The project incorporated a streambed reconstruction to improve fish passage for coho salmon, steelhead, and cutthroat trout in the Mill Creek Bogachiel River watershed. The project required temporary diversion of the creek to allow demolition and construction of the existing and future structures, respectively. The pile-supported structure was designed without the need for riprap in order to limit impacts to aquatic and riparian habitat. The stream restoration design incorporated placement of streambed gravel, boulders, log structures, and riparian restoration to create a complete restoration project.
